New Month, New Post

New Month, New Post

Last month flew by. I guess I should provide tracking and an update.

Last weekend the fam and I went to a Gala. We put on our fanciest duds and spent too much money. I keep telling myself we went out for a good cause but I’ll find any excuse to spend money. Towards the end of the night we were sharing side projects we’ve been working on and this blog came up. I had to answer some questions on the spot as to why I’m spending around an hour a week on this blog. I wasn’t too happy with my answers so going back through the questions again.

“Why am I making this site?”

I have a voice in my head at all times and it is important for me to have a place to put them. I almost want to put a question mark at the end of it. I can read it as a statement, but where does this self-conflict come from? self-doubt of having anything important to say… Before I clear this mental conflict up, I don’t think I will be able to speak confidently about the important things I am trying to accomplish for myself.

“Who is this site for?”

From here on out, I will be speaking to my imaginary friend that I call Ren. This site is primarily for me to learn, post and not care about perfection. It is not for Ren. Ren is a mental case like myself but wrapped up in what the world thinks is cool. I am not that cool unless you think Mr. Rogers is cool.

“This site is for me to find my voice?”

I have let this article hang out for a cool couple of hours. I’ve had to say plenty of things (otras cosas) in the past couple of hours. Sometimes I feel like I say too many things. 80% of the time I am only saying things to myself and noone else.

Just like tears in the rain… so are my thoughts in the Ether. No, I know my own voice, it’s just that should anybody care? again, no, not really. Except for myself.

so… Ren, who do i elevator pitch this blog to? Supposedly, working professionals but it is all over the place. Sure, I am learning web hosting, front-end, back-end, virtualization, YAML, containers, networking, zoning, segmenting, managing abstraction layers to manage other management layers. Turtles all the way down.

Oh boy, my boy, Ren do I have a riddle for you. It is story time for breaking down the entirety of computer science!

You see this website is using someone else’s private cloud infrastructure. It is being presented in the application layer of the OSI model. There are many models for young robots to choose from but the OSI model is 7 layers of turtles within each other’s turtle shell. You can go into each deeper shell and find another island of turtles writing works of science fiction on hyper-scale turtle factories that produces more turtle shells to explore. This robot that befriended human Ren knows that Ren needs to focus strategically on the first 4 layers of the OSI model to make his own turtle factory called a VPC, virtual private cloud. This is where Ren can create their own souverign turtle robot and that is going to be creating their own future reality. I know that Ren and the rest of humankind struggle at knowing and compartimentalizing files and folders.

Ren the answer to computer science is that you have a file and a folder system. Then you automate away as much of the file and folder system into managable abstraction layers.

Note of clarification: I still haven’t built my own private hosted solution and I am positive in many ways I’ve over-simplified computer science. HOWEVER, I did some dumpster diving this past week. Ren, your boy scored a free mini-Dell PC at the Dell recycling event in OKC. #Iwork4Dell. So now I have less excuses that I’ve not set up any new homelab equipment. #lifehasbeenbusy.

Hi Ren, I’m a big fan of your youtube content. ๐Ÿ™‚
